McDermott Family Fun

So, being 1/2 Norwegian and 1/2 German, I've never really been into celebrating St. Patrick's Day, although green is one of my favorite colors. BUT, now that there's a Kelly- McDermott in the house, I've had to up my game and get into the spirit a little bit! We celebrated at home first, wearing our green and taking these pictures. We then headed over to McHugh's, the "Irish" sports bar in the area, to have some dinner and drinks! We leprechauns were tired out soon after, so we took our full bellies home, put our o'jammies on, and hit the sack, dreaming of gold at the end of the rainbow...

The bear's name is Sadie, too!

Sadie was able to spend a few hours on Saturday afternoon strolling through the zoo with her friends, Wes and Owen. We first went straight to the Russian Grizzlies, who were putting on quite a show for us! They were wrestling, standing on their hind legs and playing right in front of the glass partition, so we had a front row seat. Sadie really liked the fact that one bear's name was Sadie! She also liked the otter, who were "rolling and rolling and rolling" according to Sadie. They never stopped! The Tiger was prowling, too. Then we headed inside to see the shark and the dolphins, Sadie's favorite. We'll be waiting... there is a dolphin baby on the way!

January and February... We've been busy!

Here we are, weathering January and February's cold! As you can see, besides attending swimming lessons, we've celebrated Phillip's 28th birthday! He had a party at Grandma and Grandpa's, and then got to have dinner with Cullen, Jill, Mommy and Sadie at Bonfire! Sadie's also been posing in her cute clothes. That's always fun! She also hasn't let up on the sass. The last photo documents a night not too long ago when she "refused" to stay in bed one night. Mommy was so tired, she couldn't take it anymore, so she said, "Fine, Sadie. Mommy's going to sleep. I'm not going to put you in your bed any more. Just sleep there." And so two seconds later, Sadie was ready for bed... on Mommy's floor!

The Attack of Influenza A

When I picked Sadie up from daycare on Wednesday, she looked at me and started crying. Her teacher said she was running a low grade temp. I took her home (we had to skip swimming lessons) and she put her jammies on and went to bed. When she woke up her fever was around 99, so I was thinking she was on the mend. She fell back asleep, and didn't wake up until 1:00. When I took her temp then, it was 103! We rushed to the clinic where she continued to burn up. Barney took some X-Rays to rule out pneumonia and they swabbed her nose to check for Influenza. Sure enough, before she had to endure the dreaded strep test, her Influenza A test came back positive. Oh, she was miserable, and it was so sad. There was nothing they could do for her, and as soon as we returned home, she slept for another three hours. Sadie went back to bed at about 9:00 (Phil was a good helper and bought popsicles at the store... and slept downstairs so Sadie could sleep with Mommy). When she woke up this morning at 9:30, her temp was gone. She's still not back to snuff, but she did want to wear normal clothes (soft pants) and took a little bath. I think I also heard her talking to herself... which means she's on the mend.

One of Sadie's most used Christmas gifts is the art desk her grandma and grandpa bought her. She's created many a "bead art" designs while sitting at that desk, and enjoys using her markers and stickers to create signs and then tape them up on the walls. Sadie also used some of her birthday and Christmas money to purchase herself a Sharpay costume, complete with a wig. Hmm... Let's see. What else have we done? Swimming lessons continue to go well. Both her teacher and Foss director were impressed when she swam her crawl and backstroke- laughing at how smooth and easy she made it look. (They moved her right up!) I've been semi-stressed as I'm getting to the end of my master's program at St. Kate's and am writing my final paper. I've also been really busy at work! Yikes! As I type this, unfortunately, we are both in bed, taking a day off of school because we are miserably sick. I've been fighting a sinus infection for about a week- and it's not getting better. Sadie was running a temp yesterday, and when I came to pick her up from her room at daycare, she was sitting at a table with her head down on the table. When I said her name, she looked up and immediately started crying. :( So sad! Hopefully, with a day off and a little R and R we'll be back to our hustling, bustling selves in time for the Valenine's Day party at Kids Count tomorrow! Keep your fingers crossed...
